Opening Ceremony of Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi
Commonwealth Games 2010 to open in grand style on Oct 3 2010
The COMMON WEALTH GAMES 2010, Opening Ceremony has become the showcase of India’s culture. It was held at theJawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the main stadium of the event (which started on 7 P.M, put up a brilliant show of more than two hours), in New Delhi, India. After all the shameful tales of dengue fever and squalid bedrooms, Delhi finally got its chance on Sunday to show the world (or at least the Commonwealth) that India can organise things properly. And it did not disappoint.
Prince Charles, Prince of Wales and President of India Pratibha Patil was officially declare the Games open. A. R. Rahman was among the performers who performed at the CWG 2010 Opening Ceremony. Bindra carryed Tricolour during CWG opening ceremony. Sonia Gandhi attended CWG grand opening ceremony.
"Let the games begin," Pratibha Patil, the Indian president, said.
The athletes, from 71 countries, paraded, with India dressed in burgundy and gold traditional dress. There was a 500-ton stage, modelled on a traditional temple, and 7,000 performers (piped and pranced in national dress ), carefully chosen to represent India's multitude of ethnic, religious and linguistic minorities. Blessings from all the major Indian faiths, and several minor ones, were projected on the side of the giant blimp in half a dozen local languages around the Nehru Stadium. Drums were banged, dazzling fireworks flashed and, most importantly of all, nothing went wrong. It was a cathartic moment, which showed what opening ceremonies are for: not to display the host nation's character (these things are all the same), but to test its competence.
